FABULOUS TUNISIA

The Roman Empire’s Breadbasket by the Sea

FABULOUS TUNISIA

The Roman Empire’s Breadbasket by the Sea

Tunisia was Africa to the ancient Romans, and it was the name bestowed on this little outcrop sticking out into the Mediterranean. Roman Africa was the empire’s breadbasket, and it shipped olives and grains across the Med, growing fat from the proceeds. Incredibly intact ruins of affluent ancient cities are dotted across Tunisia’s entire landscape. We will explore the best places to see the remnants of ancient Rome in Tunisia. This tiny progressive Islamic state is also home the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Kairouan, the holiest site in Islam next to Medina & Mecca. Fabulous food, luxury hotels and tempting medinas top off this Coda tour.
EXTEND YOUR TRIP: Add the island of Malta for a lesson in the Knights Hospitaller.
