Our 8-day exploration of Guadalajara & Mexico City focuses on the modern & traditional arts, cuisine and culture of the country. We will visit several modern art galleries & museums as well as the renowned Anthropology Museum with a Pre-Hispanic Art expert. Enjoy tequila tasting and an explanation of the making of tequila in the town bearing the spirits name.
In Mexico City, we tour the Frida Kalo Museum, which served as the home for her and Diego Rivera. In downtown Mexico City, we admire the spectacular mural work of Rivera, Siqueiros & Orozco.

  • Day 1 – Mon, Feb 13, 2023 | Arrive in Guadalajara

    Depart on any regularly scheduled flight to Guadalajara. Get to know the group and tour leader with a welcome dinner at a gastronomic art gallery.

  • Day 2 – Tue, Feb 14, 2023 | Art & Culture in Guadalajara

    Tour the city this morning starting at Zapopan Square with the Museo de Arte Zapopan (MAZ). Then, visit the private collection of José Noé Suro at the Ceramic Factory of Art. After lunch, enjoy a walking tour in and around the historical center of the city, ending with the Cabañas Cultural Institute, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the impressive 147 murals by one of the three main Mexican muralists: José Clemente Orozco. This evening, before a lavish dinner, visit the showroom of award-winning, multi-media artist Yuri Zatarain, to view his blend of figurative and abstract interpretations of love and honesty.

  • Day 3 – Wed, Feb 15, 2023 | Mundo Cuervo Tequila

    Journey through a blue agave landscape to the magical town of Tequila. En route, stop at Campo Buenos Aires to witness the harvest process of the agave. Tour the José Cuervo Rojeña distillery and the Visionarios Salon for a tasting. Afterwards, stop at the Juan Beckman Gallardo Cultural Center with its collection of art, crafts, carriages, and charrería. Lunch at the Hacienda El Centenario, the home of the owner of Mundo Cuervo Tequila, set amidst stunning gardens scattered with sculptures. Enjoy the music of Mariachis and a demonstration of horse skill. Take some time to explore the town of Tequila independently before return to the hotel.

  • Day 4 – Thu, Feb 16, 2023 | Discover Mexico City

    Intra-tour flight this morning arrives in Mexico City in time for lunch and a visit to the Rufino Tamayo Museum, dedicated to International Contemporary Art. Spend some time this afternoon exploring around the hotel, which is near Chapultepec Park, the National Museum of Anthropology and History and many leading shops and businesses. A culinary experience awaits this evening for dinner in the historical downtown of Mexico City.

  • Day 5 – Fri, Feb 17, 2023 | Art & Culture in Mexico City

    Discover the historic center of Mexico City with its mixed architecture of Colonial, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco styles, all built upon the ancient Aztec city. A guided tour will focus on works by the “Three Great Muralists” Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Jose Clemente Orozco. Walk through the Zócalo Cathedral, wander amid the ruins of the city of Tenochtitlán, and visit the first mural ever painted by Diego Rivera at the Old School of San Ildefonso. End with a guided tour of the Palace of Fine Arts followed by lunch and studio visit at the home of artist Máximo González.

  • Day 6 – Sat, Feb 18, 2023 | Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera | Jumex Museum | Museo Soumaya

    The Frida Kahlo Museum, or La Casa Azul, where Frida Khalo was born, raised, and lived with her husband Diego Rivera for a time, is a treasure trove of artifacts from her life and work and our first stop this morning. Next, visit the twin houses of their home and studio for a more in depth look into their lives and artwork. After lunch, explore the San Angel Saturday Bazaar, followed by a guided tour of the Jumex Museum. The Jumex Collection is a Contemporary collection featuring works from international as well as Mexican artists. Finally, explore the varied collection of art and artifacts at the Museo Soumaya.

  • Day 7 – Sun, Feb 19, 2023 | Art, History, and Anthropology

    Today, enjoy a guided tour of the Anthropology Museum with a Pre-Hispanic Art expert before lunch. Next, continue with the guide to the Teotihuacan Pyramids, a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city. Upon return to Mexico City, tour the studio of Raúl Cordero, known for his large, blurry paintings with dotted texts investigating the structure and language of art. Savor a memorable farewell dinner of traditional Mexican dishes before return to the hotel.

    Depart overland for the majestic city of Puebla and the Esteban Chapital Fernández Collection, a private gallery with a large collection of exclusively Mexican art. Continue to the International Baroque Museum. After lunch, downtown Puebla features one of the most important historical museums in Mexico, the Amparo Museum. Explore the city independently before a rooftop cocktail overlooking the beautiful city.

Delta with Aeromexico offers flights between Miami (MIA) and Guadalajara (GDL) and American, United, and Aeromexico offer flights between Mexico City (MEX) and Miami (MIA). We recommend booking at least 7 months in advance if you want to use Frequent Flyer Miles or the American Express Platinum card 2-4-1 program. Please request a quote if you would like Coda Tours to assist with international airfare bookings. We often can offer favorable rates for Business or Economy class at a standard fee of $35 per ticket.

Intra-tour flight on February 16, 2023 from Guadalajara to Mexico City are at an additional cost and are outlined below. Coda Tours will book these on your behalf.

All travelers must be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines and have proof of vaccination that is verified by a medical professional. No other immunizations are required for travel on this tour; however, the Center for Disease Control suggests that all travelers be up to date on routine vaccines, including Chickenpox (Varicella), Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis, Flu (influenza), Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR), Polio, and Shingles. For this tour, it is especially important to be up to date on your Hepatitis A and B vaccines.

The temperature on this tour will be warm during the days and chilly in the evenings, please pack layered clothing and plan to dress accordingly for the temperature.
