    Welcome to the cultural heart of Vietnam, Hanoi. After clearing customs, meet our representative for a 45-minute transfer to the centrally located hotel. History lovers may opt for the complimentary Path of History tour to visit the underground bomb shelter hidden beneath the hotel.

    An Airport Representative will usher VIPs direct from the arrivals gate and to the Visa and express clearance through immigration. Luggage assistance will be provided before being brought outside to meet the local guide.

  • Day 3 – Feb 17 | Discover Hanoi

    Start the day with a private excursion around the city. Learn about the life and times of former President Ho Chi Minh including a visit to his mausoleum and stilted house. Continue to the unique One Pillar Pagoda before lunch. Then, ride into the city’s Old Quarter via bicycle rickshaw to explore a series of narrow, 15th century streets, each bearing a name that reflects the business once conducted there, such as Silk Street and Rice Street. End the day at the beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake (Lake of the Returned Sword) and visit the temple of Ngoc Son followed by a traditional Vietnamese dinner.

  • Day 4 – Feb 18 | Vietnamese Culture and History

    Explore the 11th century Temple of Literature with an expert in Vietnamese culture, history, and education. Afterwards, visit Hỏa Lò Prison, nicknamed Hanoi Hilton. Then, sit down with a U.S. veteran, who came to fight in the Vietnam War but was deeply conflicted between U.S. policy and his newfound respect for Vietnam, its people, culture, and history.

    After lunch, tour the Art Vietnam Gallery with Art Director Suzanne Lecht, the leading authority on Contemporary Art in Vietnam. Further discover a treasure-trove of galleries and exhibitions in the area while discussing Vietnam’s burgeoning artists.

    A gastronomic adventure of Hanoi’s vibrant culinary scene will lead guests through the backstreets for a myriad of fresh vendors whose delicacies fill the air with enticing aromas. Eat as the locals do, sitting on a low stool on the pavement on Food Street, and sample a variety of snacks and sip on bia hoi, fresh, locally brewed beer. At Trúc Bạch Lake, more delicious treats await, such as a Vietnamese beef wrap and roll.

  • Day 5 – Feb 19 | Cruise Lan Ha Bay

    This morning, a two-hour transport will arrive at port for an overnight cruise on the majestic waters of Lan Ha Bay. Join the crew for a welcome drink while boarding the vessel, styled after a traditional Vietnamese junk boat. Enjoy a leisurely lunch surrounded by the dramatic beauty of the bay. In the afternoon, visit Cát Bà island to explore Trung Trang cave via van. Return to the ship and continue to Tra Bau for a swim in the pristine ocean waters.

    Later, join a cooking demonstration to learn how to make a classic Vietnamese dish. Savor the cool sea breeze and the warm glow of twilight as the boat anchors for the night. Enjoy dinner on board followed by an evening at leisure. Fish for squid, stargaze from the sundeck, or simply spend a quiet evening in the cabin.

  • Day 6 – Feb 20 | Hội An

    Wake to the peaceful sounds of the gentle breeze and water lapping against the boat. Enjoy a light breakfast in the dining room or Tai Chi session on the sundeck. Early this morning, explore the Ao Ech area of the bay by kayak. Enjoy brunch and a tea ceremony before disembarking and transferring to Hanoi Airport for the flight to Da Nang to stay in Hội An.

    Hội An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a picturesque old town on the Thu Bồn River with a rich cultural, culinary, and creative heart. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel and spend the remainder of the day enjoying the luxuries of the Four Seasons. Enjoy the beachfront infinity pools or be pampered with a spa treatment overlooking a peaceful lotus pond.

  • Day 7 – Feb 21 | Discover Hội An

    Explore the charms of Hội An on foot. Stroll through winding streets, past rows of traditional houses to better appreciate the grand architecture of the Old House of Tan Ky. Admire the traditional elegance of the Fujian Assembly Hall, pass through the impressive 400-year-old Japanese covered bridge, then continue to a local studio to create a unique souvenir – a traditional lantern. The afternoon and evening are at leisure.

    Optional Excursion: Fields and Farming in Hội An
    Meet a local vegetable farmer in a small village on the outskirts of Hội An. Experience a typical day on an organic, traditional, Vietnamese farm. Learn about the equipment and their uses, then join the farmers in the field to prepare the land for sewing or to harvest crops or to help fertilize the soil with seaweed from the nearby river. Pick vegetables and herbs from the garden and head to the kitchen to prepare a local specialty using the freshly harvested ingredients and enjoy the taste of a self-made snack.

  • Day 8 – Feb 22 | Huế

    This morning, depart to Huế via Cloudy Pass with a visit to the Cham Museum in Da Nang - once the center of the ancient Cham civilization. Begin at the Imperial Citadel, then venture to the traditional market of Dong Ba. Arrive on the banks of the scenic Perfume River to check-in at the hotel. With a breathtaking view of the former Imperial Citadel, it is an easy walk to the city's sights. This evening is a special Imperial Dinner at the hotel and Imperial costumes are available for souvenir photographs.

  • Day 9 – Feb 23 | Tombs of Huế | Ho Chi Minh City

    A short drive through the rolling hills of Huế will take us to our morning tour of the tombs of the former dynasty’s most prolific emperors. We then visit the nearby incense-making village, which has been supplying the nation’s incense for generations, a staple of every house and temple in Vietnam.
     
    After lunch, transfer to the Huế airport for onward flight to the bustling and vibrant Ho Chi Minh City and transfer to the hotel. Commonly known by its former name of Saigon, this captivating city is home to old French boulevards and colonial architecture juxtaposed to traditional temples and modern skyscrapers.

  • Day 10 – Feb 24 | Discover Ho Chi Minh City

    Explore the city from past to present, starting at the Reunification Palace and followed by a visit to the History Museum or the War Remnants Museum, and ending at the Cao Dai temple. The afternoon is at leisure. Opt for a spa treatment or an optional add-on.

    Cruise the Saigon River on a private speedboat to visit the Củ Chi tunnels. This intriguing network of underground tunnels provided shelter and an effective source of infiltration for the Viet Cong during the later years of the Vietnam War. Catch a glimpse of life during the war while crawling in tight, narrow passageways.
    *The Củ Chi Tunnels may cause discomfort for those who experience claustrophobia, fear of the dark, irregular cardiac conditions or similar health conditions. However, crawling inside the tunnels is entirely optional.

    Optional Add-On: Sacred Craftsmen of Chinatown
    Experience the trades and traditions of Chinatown, or Cho Lon. Drive past traditional Chinese medicine stores filled with dried ginger, ginseng, and all manner of herbs. Meet an old community of craftsmen who spend their days creating small amulets and religious statues. Chat with some of the artisans to learn more about their way of life, which seems to have changed very little over the years. Explore a neighbourhood market and taste some of their traditional specialties before enjoying a cup of Vietnamese coffee at a charming local café. Continue further to discover an incense-filled temple and learn about Chinese religious rites and customs while making an offering by lighting a spiral incense cone.

  • Day 11 – Feb 25 | Ho Chi Minh | Siem Reap

    Enjoy a morning at leisure with time to relax and enjoy the hotel ammenities. Alternatively, we have optional add-ons availble to further explore the city. After check-out, transfer to the Tân Sơn Nhất Airport for onward flight to Siem Reap, a flourishing provincial town best known as the gateway to the treasures of Angkor.

    Upon arrival, an airport fast-track service representative collects passports and arrival/departure cards and escorts the group directly to the baggage claim area, bypassing the lines at immigration. After being guided through customs, meet the local guide for transfer to the hotel. *If a visa is not secured in advance and must be acquired upon arrival, please prepare one passport-size photograph and the visa fee.

    See the city slowly come to life with an early morning cyclo ride (a pedal-powered rickshaw) past Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. Stroll through a city park where locals gather for their daily Tai Chi practice or a game of badminton and taste Vietnamese coffee at a scenic spot behind the Reunification Palace. Stop by the memorial of a Buddhist monk who famously committed an act of self-immolation in 1963. Then, hop on the back of a Vespa with a local driver to visit a street market and a secret weapons bunker. Continue to the colorful flower market and enjoy a traditional bowl of pho at one of the city’s best noodle shops.

Travel Prep

Among others, Delta with Korean Air or American Airlines partnering with Japan Airlines or Bangkok Airways offer flights between New York (JFK) or Miami (MIA) to Hanoi (HAN) and/or Siem Reap (REP). We recommend booking at least 7 months in advance if you want to use Frequent Flyer Miles or the American Express Platinum card 2-4-1 program. Please request a quote if you would like Coda Tours to assist with international airfare bookings. We often can offer favorable rates for Business or Economy class at a standard fee of $35 per ticket.

Intra-tour flights are additional and quoted separately. Typically, we book only coach class. Business class upgrades are available upon request when possible. Fees for 1 checked bag at the weight specified by the airline will be included. Note that some airlines have very restricted baggage weight limits. Excess baggage fees can be paid at the airport at the time of check in. Fees can be expensive. LIMIT YOUR LUGGGAE TO 1 PIECE AND PREFERABLY to less than 35lbs. Pre-assigned seating is not usually purchased in advance. On intra-tour flights, seating is secured at the airport at the time of check in and can be assigned randomly by the airline. A valid passport is required for international travel and must be valid for 6 months after the return date of travel and have two blank pages available per country visited. A visa is required for American and Canadian passport holders to enter Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. We recommend obtaining an e-visa.

Visas may also be obtained upon arrival at the airport in Hanoi, Vietnam, Siem Reap, Cambodia, and Luang Prabang, Laos. To arrange for this, Coda Tours must submit all personal data in advance to the authorities. Please inform us at the time of booking if you wish to obtain your visa upon arrival.

All travelers must be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines and have proof of vaccination that is verified by a medical professional. No other immunizations are required for travel on this tour; however, the Center for Disease Control suggests that all travelers be up to date on routine vaccines, including measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot. For this tour, it is especially important to be up to date on your Hepatitis A and B vaccines.

The temperature on this tour will range from pleasant in the evenings to quite hot in some areas with little expected rainfall. Please dress accordingly, however, no sleeveless tops that expose the shoulders and no shorts/skirts that expose the knees are permitted when visiting temples and religious sites.

All departures and rates are guaranteed on a minimum number of participants. A Coda Tour Manager will accompany a tour also based on a minimum number of participants. This tour can be operated as a Private Tour or customized and repriced based on a final itinerary.

A portfolio of pre-departure information will be mailed approximately three weeks prior to departure.
