Day 1 – Depart the USA
Depart the USA on any regularly scheduled flight to Muscat (MCT), Oman.
Day 2 – Arrive in Muscat
Upon arrival in the port city of Muscat, a car service will be waiting for a transfer to the The Chedi Hotel.
Day 3 – Dolphin & Whale Watching
Watch for dolphins and whales today on our tour from Bandar Marina. Common in the coastal waters off Muscat’s rugged shoreline, this morning should be one to remember. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon.
Day 4 – Muscat – Muhtrah Fish Market & Souq
Explore the essentials of Muscat, a traditional culture with a modern city center. Tour the Grand Mosque*, Royal Opera House, and Bait al Zubair Museum as you learn the history and development of the city. Next, shop the fabulous Mutrah Fish Market and colorful souq before snapping a photo of the official palace of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, flanked by 16th c. Portuguese forts.
*visitors must be fully covered wrists to ankles; ladies must wear a scarf covering hair and neck
Day 5 – Bimah Sinkhole – Wadi Shab – Sur – Ras al Jinz
A breath-taking coastal drive takes us to the Bimah Sinkhole. Then, relax in the aquamarine pools and marvel at the waterfalls, and terraced plantations of Wadi Shab – one of the most beautiful spots in Oman. Winding through mountainous terrain, we arrive in Sur at the Dhow Factory to discover how artisans use centuries-old techniques to build traditional Arabian ships. This evening we take a stroll along the beach to watch the giant green turtles laying their eggs under the light of the moon.
Day 6 – Wadi Bani Khalid – Wahiba Sands – Al Wasil
Swim in the clear blue waters of Wadi Bani Khalid and picnic in the lush greenery around the clear natural spring. An exhilarating drive across the vast dunes of the Wahiba Sands takes us to our encampment for an unforgettable night under the stars enjoying traditional Arabic and Omani cuisine and hospitality.
Day 7 – Bedouin Experience – Ibra – Birkat Al Mouz – Nizwa
Sip a traditional Bedouin coffee in a Bedouin home. As nomads of the desert, these people have a fascinating lifestyle. After, we wander the old villages of Ibra, gawking at the old architecture. Then, we promenade through the lush green date plantations in the beautiful village of Birkat al Mauz. Our day ends in Nizwa, birthplace of Islam in Oman.
Day 8 – Al Hamra – Wadi Nakhr – Jebel Shams
Tour the Aflaj Irrigation Systems of Al Hamra and see the 400-year-old mud houses still occupied today. Experience the authentic Omani lifestyle in Bait Al Safah, a living history museum. We stop at Wadi Nakhr, a farming village in the mountains, before we reach Jabal Shams and the gorgeous vistas of the Great Canyon of Oman.
Day 9 – Nizwa – Bahla – Jabrin
Tour the famous Round Tower Fort of Nizwa followed by a visit to the souq. Purchase some silver jewelry or hand-carved khanjars (daggers). Then, explore outside the city to Bahla, a town encircled by a winding wall and UNESCO protected fort. Jabrin, another nearby town, houses the finest castle in Oman complete with ornate ceiling paintings and beautifully executed woodcarvings.
Day 10 –Departure
Say goodbye as we transfer to the airport for our return flight home.

Lufthansa/United, Qatar, Delta/KLM, Emirates are among airlines that can be used to book international airfare for this tour. We recommend booking at least 7 months in advance if you want to use Frequent Flyer.
There are no intra-tour flights required for this tour.
VISAS: A valid passport is required for international travel and must be valid for 6 months after the return date of travel. A visa is also required for travel to Oman and must be pre-arranged. A short stay visa for 10 days is $40 per passport. Coda Tours will arrange the visa for the group or individual arrivals. The processing cost is $60 per person, including the $40 visa fee.
VACCINES: The Center for Disease Control suggests that all travelers make sure they are up to date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot. Measles vaccination is especially important when traveling to this area.
Coda trips are casual at all times. There is no need for a jacket or tie unless you personally opt to dine at a fine restaurant requiring formal dress. We do not book these restaurants for our group experiences. Pack for a variety of weather. Bring a light jacket or sweater. Jeans, khakis and shorts are fine for daily wear. Comfortable shoes are a must. All hotels offer laundry service, but it can be expensive.
Temperatures will range from highs in mid 80’s to low’s in the low 70’s. Some areas may experience a cold snap so a jacket and some warm clothing is worth packing.
All departures are guaranteed on a minimum number of participants. A Coda Tour Manager will accompany a tour also based on a minimum number of participants. This tour can be operated as a Private Tour, can be customized and repriced based on a final itinerary. Rates are based on a minimum participation, if the minimum is not met, rates may need to be revised.
